Hyperhidrosis is the term for excessive or uncontrolled sweating. Sweating is a normal process with exercise or in response to elevated temperature, but many people sweat excessively in localized areas such as the underarms, hands or face, for no apparent reason. Until now, excessive sweating was difficult to control. Finally, there is a long lasting treatment for hyperhidrosis that really works.
Amazingly, Botox has been proven effective in greatly diminishing or abolishing sweating in these areas and Health Canada has approved Botox for this use.
Unlike messy topical treatments, Botox targets sweating at its source. Dr. Banks and Dr. Milkovich administer the Botox by tiny injections placed just under the skin’s surface where it specifically enters the glands responsible for excessive perspiration. There it blocks the nerve signals that cause sweating. The Botox is only injected in the problem area, and normal healthy sweating will continue to occur elsewhere on the body.
Clients treated with Botox notice a remarkable improvement in hyperhidrosis symptoms. In clinical studies, 95% of patients with hyperhidrosis that was severe enough to interfere with their daily lives experienced the benefits of Botox after just 1 week, with sweating reduced by an average of 83%. Clients treated for hyperhidrosis with Botox report an increase in their quality of life, with improved social confidence, freedom to wear whatever they want, and even decreased body odour.
This safe and simple treatment takes only 10-15 minutes, and you can immediately return to your normal activities, including sports. Results are long-lasting, on average about 8-12 months after the first treatment. Repeat treatments often last longer, sometimes up to 18 months. One study showed that 40% of patients treated had reduced sweating for longer than 1 year after treatment.
You may be surprised to know that most drug plans & extended health plans will cover the cost of Botox used to treat Hyperhidrosis.
