We caught up with the very busy Dr. Milkovich to ask him about the award and what it means for the practice and himself and Dr. Banks.
Dr. Milkovich explained that Allergan is the multinational company that researches and manufactures Botox, Latisse and Juvederm.
“Allergan recognizes excellence in cosmetic dermatology practices by assessing elements of a cosmetic physician’s success, such as customer satisfaction, a record of safety, professional technique, and esthetic artistry,” said Dr. Milkovich.
Physician Teaching Program
In recognition of MD ESTHETICS’ outstanding contributions to the field of cosmetic medicine, Allergan Canada asked Dr. Banks and Dr. Milkovich to implement a physician teaching program several times a year and provide advanced training to doctors who want to improve their techniques and grow their practices.
Dr. Banks and Dr. Milkovich had been training doctors for ten years at MD ESTHETICS, prior to Allergan’s request, so it was a natural progression for them to continue and to expand on their teaching. The Allergan training program began in 2015, when six doctors came from across Canada to learn from the two cosmetic physicians at MD ESTHETICS.
We asked Dr. Milkovich what he and Dr. Banks share with visiting doctors.
“When we train other physicians we talk about the physiology of the face…what changes as we age…and we demonstrate how to alleviate those changes while maintaining an individual’s natural look. Our goal is to have patients look like a refreshed version of themselves, not to look like they’ve had something done. To look natural,” said Dr. Milkovich.
He added, “We’ve pioneered many of our techniques and also tried to take the best of what is happening around the world. We always focus on safety, not only great results but the safest practices.”
What does this award mean to you and your team?
“Receiving the Centre of Excellence designation is an honour,” said Dr. Milkovich, “but it was never a specific goal. The goal at MDE is always to ensure that our patients are happy. From the moment our patients walk through our doors, we want them to feel comfortable and welcome. It’s imperative that our patients know that we are listening and that we care. We want to understand what the patient wants, what his or her personal expectations are, and then to help them realize those expectations.
Patients come to us at different ages and for different reasons, and it’s important that we understand what they are looking for. They come to us too, at various levels of understanding about what the procedures involve. We always want to get their whole story before suggesting a treatment plan.”
How rewarding is this work, for you and your team?
“What we do is deeply satisfying on a personal level. We love what we do. The designation…it’s just an accolade that results from doing the right things. The right things for us are that our patients look natural, that we truly take the time to understand what a patient is looking for, and being honest with a person about whether or not their goals are realistic.
Each member of our staff is fantastic. We’re all on the same page when it comes to our patients and their comfort and confidence.
We focus on how patients feel, and not just how they look.
Their smiles and tears of joy are our best rewards. It’s very satisfying.”
