1. Who is it for?
   Fraxel Laser is for women and men who want to significantly improve the quality of their skin. It is safe for all skin types, including those with darker skin.
   
   Wrinkles and sun damage, blemishes and brown spots, enlarged pores and acne scarring, and fine lines such as "smoker's lines" around the mouth all benefit greatly from Fraxel. Clients enjoy smoother, healthier, more youthful looking skin.
   
   Other skin imperfections such as stretch marks and surgical scars can also be treated.
2. How does Fraxel work?
   Fraxel is an Erbium based skin renewal laser that utilizes a revolutionary technology called Fractional Resurfacing. With Fractional Resurfacing Technology, the laser delivers a series of microscopic closely spaced laser spots to the skin while simultaneously preserving normal healthy skin between the laser spots.
   
   This preservation of healthy skin results in rapid healing following the laser treatment and allows the Fraxel laser to achieve great results without compromising safety. Most importantly, downtime after treatment is minimal, about 2 days, compared to 4-6 weeks with older technologies.
   
   Reliant Technologies, the manufacturer of Fraxel, invented and developed this technology and is undisputed leader in the industry.
3. Is the Fraxel laser FDA and Health Canada approved?
   Yes. The Fraxel laser is both FDA and Health Canada approved. Fraxel has an industry-proven, excellent safety record and is well tolerated by patients of all ages and skin types.
4. Who performs the Fraxel laser procedure?
   At MD Esthetics, all Fraxel Laser Treatments involve one of our Physicians, either Dr. Milkovich or Dr. Banks, assisted by another member of our team, either a Licensed RN (nurse) or Certified Laser Technician.
5. Does it hurt?
   Fraxel treatments are very well tolerated. To ensure your comfort a topical numbing cream is applied to the skin 1 hour prior to treatment. As the laser passes over the skin the sensation is described as tiny prickles followed by a sensation of warmth. For additional comfort, we also use a device called a Zimmer cooler which gently blows cool air on the treated area. Pain medication is not usually required after your treatment as any discomfort is generally mild.
6. How many treatments are needed?
   Optimum results are generally achieved with 4 treatments spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments are not necessary with Fraxel.
7. What can I expect after a Fraxel laser treatment?
   Fraxel offers rapid healing and minimal downtime compared to traditional resurfacing technologies. Clients can generally return to normal activity in just 2 to 3 days.
   
   The skin is intact following treatment with Fraxel, not raw like older technologies. Consequently there is no oozing, crusting, or woundcare following Fraxel treatment.
   
   Immediately after treatment the skin will tend to be pinkish-red with slight swelling. The mild swelling resolves within 24 hours and the redness over 48 to 72 hours. The skin may then take on a slight bronze colour like a suntan. Over the next 10 days, the skin will have a fine sandpaper feel as the healthy new skin replaces the old, but will generally look normal.
   
   There is no special care required after Fraxel. Clients apply a soothing balm twice a day for 48 hours and protect the skin with a quality sunblock provided by MD Esthetics.
8. What areas can be treated?
   Fraxel Laser skin renewal can be performed anywhere on the body. The most commonly treated areas are the face, neck, and hands.
9. How long do the results last?
   Fraxel results are long lasting and maintenance treatments are not needed. A good skin care routine including regular use of a quality sunscreen will help to lessen future sun damage. We would be pleased to recommend skin care products ideally suited to your skin type and skin care needs.
10. How long does a Fraxel treatment take?
    Fraxel's advanced technology allows an entire face to be treated in just 45 minutes. A gentle numbing cream is applied by our technician 1 hour prior to your treatment.
