- Who is it for?
Laser hair removal is for women and men who desire permanent removal of unwanted hair anywhere on their body. Laser hair removal is safer, more comfortable, and much faster than electrolysis, and much simpler than ongoing waxing, shaving, and plucking.
The most commonly treated areas are the upper lip, chin, and other facial regions, the underarms, bikini area, and legs. Darker hairs are the most bothersome to clients and fortunately respond the best to laser hair removal.
Men who suffer from ingrown hairs along the beardline of their neck and throat will find laser hair removal an effective solution to this common nuisance. Even large areas of the body can be treated quickly and effectively. Men concerned with unsightly hair on the back and shoulders are easily treated.

- How does laser hair removal work?
A laser system produces a highly concentrated beam of light energy. The Lightsheer XC diode laser is specially designed to target the pigment located in the hair follicle.
In just a fraction of a second, a pulse of the Lightsheer XC handpiece selectively treats the hair follicles while leaving the rest of the skin healthy and intact. The system simultaneously cools the surface of the skin for comfort and additional safety, allowing us to treat even the most sensitive skin.
The treated hair follicles permanently lose their ability to re-grow hair.
Because the laser targets the hair follicle, you do not have to "grow the hair in" for your treatment. In fact, it's best to shave or use a chemical depilatory (hair removal) agent prior to your treatment session.
- How many treatments will I need?
It takes about 4 treatments for optimum results. This varies slightly among individuals depending on hair colour, hair coarseness, skin type, and the area being treated.
Hair follicles are always turning "on" and "off" in our skin and therefore not all follicles are actively growing hair at any one time. The laser treats the "on" or "active" follicles very effectively at each treatment session. By spacing your sessions a few weeks apart, the laser is able to treat the follicles that have turned "on" since the previous session. This results in the treatment of almost all of the hair follicles in the area.
- What can I expect?
Most treatments take between a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area(s) being treated. Larger areas may take longer.
Once you're comfortable, one of our experienced laser technicians will position the smooth laser handpiece lightly on your skin and gently pass it over the treatment area as the laser pulses. The quick, short pulses will feel like a prickle and are generally easily tolerated. There is much less discomfort compared to waxing or electrolysis. For sensitive areas, numbing cream is available to ensure your absolute comfort.
It's common to have some redness and minor swelling around the hair follicles immediately following your session, an indicator of effective treatment. Most clients return to normal activity right away and there's no special care or pain relievers required.

Laser hair removal with the Lightsheer XC is safer, faster, and much more comfortable than electrolysis. With laser hair removal, numerous hair follicles are treated with each pulse, making it easy to treat even large areas.
With electrolysis, each hair must be treated individually and the nature of the treatment can cause scarring visible at the surface of the skin. Electrolysis is a painful, slow process and is therefore only tolerated in small areas.
