Oily Skin
Oily skin is the term given to those who experience excessive production of the normal skin oil, sebum. Facial skin has more oil glands (sebaceous glands) than skin elsewhere on the body and sebum is an important protective factor in our skin, especially against drying. Some of us produce more sebum than others however, and this can lead to skin that looks “oily”. Some individuals, but not all, with oily skin will be prone to acne.
There are numerous strategies to manage oily skin. The key is to control the oiliness of the skin without aggressively stripping it away. Over-drying the skin will ultimately stimulate increased production of oil.
Our doctors and clinical estheticians can develop a plan for you, from healthy skin care tips to more corrective treatments that decrease oil production. Optimizing your skin care routine is a simple and particularly helpful step in ensuring the healthy management of your oily skin.
