Rosacea & Facial Redness

Rosacea, sometimes called acne rosacea, is a chronic skin condition characterized by facial redness and visible “broken” blood vessels (telangiectasias) on the nose, cheeks and/or chin. Sometimes Rosacea can form pimples and thickened skin, causing it to be misdiagnosed as adult acne.

If you have Rosacea, you’re not alone. It affects over a million Canadian men and women, mostly between the ages of 30 and 60. Fair skinned individuals are most likely to develop Rosacea and it’s sometimes referred to as the “Curse of the Celts” or a “Peaches and Cream” complexion.

The tendency for easy facial flushing and persistent facial redness can be very distressing and in the past many people with Rosacea were unfairly labelled as “heavy drinkers” because of their red noses and ruddy complexion.

Although some routine steps can be taken to help reduce the symptoms of Rosacea such as staying cool and avoiding hot foods, hot drinks & alcohol, most patients and doctors have found Rosacea difficult to treat and control.

The great news is that recent advances in laser and light-based technologies have brought wonderful new ways to treat the symptoms of Rosacea. It is now possible to effectively reduce or eliminate the visible vessels at the surface, as well as decrease facial flushing.
