On The Road With Dr. Milkovich

I had the pleasure of attending the Maui Derm Conference again this year in beautiful Wailea, on the island of Maui. This 5 day conference is a favourite of mine as it presents the “latest and greatest” advancements in dermatology in a practical and unbiased manner. Useful topics for my aesthetic practice included Rosacea and Acne, as well as laser treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions. There were also lectures dedicated to the current uses of Botox and Fillers for cosmetic enhancement.

I particularly enjoyed the dermoscopy workshop. Dermoscopy utilizes a special imaging tool that allows us physicians to see moles in a new way. It’s much better than the naked eye at determining which ones need to be removed and which can safely be left alone. We can identify skin cancers earlier, especially melanoma, and also reduce the number of moles we remove unnecessarily due to faulty suspicion. That means better outcomes and fewer scars – very desirable indeed!

At MD ESTHETICS, we use dermoscopy prior to cosmetic laser treatments such as laser mole removal and resurfacing laser treatments, to help ensure any moles being removed are benign and need no further medical assessment.
